Job Description
The Deputy Ground Operations & Security Manager assists the Ground Operations Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the ground handling team. This role ensures that cargo handling, loading, unloading, and ground support services are executed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with regulatory standards. The deputy plays a critical role in supervising operations, managing teams, resolving issues, and optimizing processes.
Responsibilities
Supervision and Team Leadership:
- Assist in managing and leading the ground operations team, including cargo handlers, ramp agents, and ground support personnel.
- Ensure all team members are trained, compliant with safety regulations, and follow operational procedures.
- Delegate tasks and manage schedules for team members to ensure timely execution of operations.
Cargo Handling and Logistics:
- Monitor and ensure efficient cargo loading, unloading, and handling operations at all times.
- Ensure compliance with cargo security regulations and procedures.
- Oversee the organization of cargo at the ramp, ensuring proper storage and documentation.
- Assist with the coordination of special cargo handling (e.g., hazardous materials, perishable goods).
- Coordinate the ground handling for Charter Operations.
Operational Efficiency:
- Support in maintaining operational KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) for on-time performance and cargo throughput.
- Work to resolve any operational issues promptly to prevent delays and disruptions.
- Assist with the coordination of flight schedules and ensure all necessary resources (e.g., vehicles, equipment) are available for operations.
- Ensure Loadmasters are assigned accordingly on our Fleet
Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure adherence to aviation regulations/standards (EASA, IATA, etc.) and company policies concerning cargo handling and ground operations.
- Implement and maintain a strong safety culture within the team, ensuring all safety protocols are followed.
- Conduct regular audits of ground operations to ensure compliance with industry standards.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Communicate effectively with ground staff, and other departments to ensure smooth coordination of cargo operations.
- Work with the Operations Manager to develop and implement improvements in operational processes.
Emergency and Contingency Management:
- Participate in incident investigations, ensuring that corrective actions are taken to prevent future occurrences.
Reporting and Documentation:
- Assist in preparing daily, weekly, or monthly reports on operational performance, safety audits, and any incidents or issues.
- Ensure all operational documentation is completed accurately and promptly (e.g., cargo manifests, reports, regulatory compliance).
- Raise Safety reports for any ground operations occurrence on the 9H Fleet.
Security:
- Liaise with Crew and HR to obtain and verify all required documentation for Employee Background Check (EBC) applications.
- Submit EBC applications to AVSEC authorities and monitor the approval process, ensuring timely follow-up and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Oversee security compliance and protection measures across the 9H fleet.
- Support and implement security requirements.
- Ensure adherence to aviation security regulations and company procedures.
- Act as the focal point for security audits, incidents, and regulatory inspections.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Aviation, or a related field (preferred).
Experience
- Proven experience in cargo ground operations, preferably within the airline or logistics industry.
- Strong knowledge of aviation regulations, safety standards, and cargo handling procedures.
- Leadership experience, with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Valid certifications related to cargo operations and safety (e.g., Dangerous Goods, IATA certifications) would be an advantage.
